There’s an easy way to stop receiving junk mail

To the editor:

When unwanted mail appears in my mailbox, I either phone or write to the sender to state two things: Do not to send anything else, and do not pass on my name to other companies.  Both statements are important.

To avoid future phone calls from telemarketers, contact the Do Not Call Registry at 1-800-382-1222. This process works.  My sister, who calls it a couple of times a year (marketers tend to creep in), no longer gets time-wasting telemarketing calls.

These actions take a few months to kick in, but they work. Disconnecting an unwanted call, however, and tossing junk mail into the recycling container just prolong getting what you don’t want.
