Tri-State area commemorative 9/11 activities Sept. 8-11

The following is a list of activities being held in the Tri-State area to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks:

• Sunday, Sept. 8 — A memorial service to mark the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on America. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) and Shanksville (Pa.) Volunteer Fire Department Chief Terry L. Shaffer will be guest speakers. David Wenerd and the Falling Spring Brass Choir, Marcel Coates and the Community Chorus, and organist Patti Plasterer will provide music. 3 p.m. Letterkenny Chapel on Letterkenny Army Depot, 1 Overcash Ave., Chambersburg, Pa.

• Tuesday, Sept. 10 — The 11th Annual Remembrance in the Park ceremony will take place in the Emergency Services Tribute Gardens at City Park in Hagerstown at 6:30 p.m.

The ceremony honors emergency services, law-enforcement and military men and women currently serving, as well as those who have lost their lives making our community a safer place to live. An emergency personnel processional will be followed by a flag ceremony, tolling of the bell and wreath-laying at the 9-11 Memorial. Walk of Honor bricks purchased in 2013 to honor individuals or businesses that have positively impacted the community will be unveiled.

• Wednesday, Sept. 11 — The First Hose Co. of Boonsboro hosts its 11th annual Remembrance Parade in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11, and those in the military who lost their lives serving our country. The parade will be held along Main Street in Boonsboro at 6:30 p.m.

• Wednesday, Sept. 11 — The Independent Fire Co. will host its 12th annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 9:58 a.m. at the fire station, 200 W. Second Ave., Ranson, W.Va. Guest speaker is George Harrison of Jefferson County, W.Va., who was at the World Trade Center that morning with the Secret Service.
