James William Kershner, 93, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Feb. 12, 1920, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Earl McKinley and Grace Mae Ausherman Kershner.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a life member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown.

He retired from Mack Trucks after 20 years.

James was a member of Mack Golden Bulldogs, Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. and Washington County AMVETS Post 10; a charter and life member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211; and a member of Elks Lodge 378, AARP, United Auto Workers 171 and Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Mae Kershner; a son, James Lee Kershner and wife, Linda, of Funkstown; a grandson, James Frederick Kershner and wife, Michele, of Funkstown; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Ellen Hartle and Doris Virginia Niner.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Michael K. Louia will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Improvement Fund, P.O. Box 148, Funkstown, MD 21734.
