Gospel sing planned at Mount Zion Church

There will be a concert given by Daystar, a gospel singing group, Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Church, 14336 Greencastle Pile in Cearfoss.

Refreshments will be served. 

A goodwill offering will be collected for the singers.

Also, there will be a basket in front of the church to donate to cemetery maintenance.

Senior Connection to meet Tuesday

The Cearfoss Senior Connection will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, 14010 Greencastle Pike.

The program will be “Money Matters” by speaker Steward Kotler.

Mack Golden Bulldogs

The Mack Golden Bulldogs will meet Monday at 10 a.m. at the UAW Meeting Hall in Maugansville.  There will be entertainment by The Horizon Band, a local group of senior musicians who will be playing marches, patriotic and Broadway tunes.

Fitness classes to start at school

Washington County Recreation Department will offer fitness classes this fall at Maugansville Elementary School on Maugans Avenue. 

Zumba will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 10 to Dec. 5, from 6:15 to 7 p.m. The classes cost $40 for county residents, $50 for nonresidents and $32 for those 55 and older.

 “Work Out Your Way,” which is three different 30-minute workouts on different days, will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m.  Tuesday’s workout is “Hybrid Cardio,” Wednesday’s workout is “Muscles at Work” and Thursday’s workout is “Step Fusion.”  The classes begin the week of Sept. 10  and end Dec. 12. The cost for one class per week is $20 for county residents, $25 for nonresidents and $16 for seniors. The cost for two classes per week is $30 for county residents, $35 for nonresidents, and $24 for seniors.  The cost for three classes per week is $50 for county residents, $55 for nonresidents  and $40 for seniors.

Line dance lessons

 The Hagerstown Country Western Dance Association is holding line dance lessons on Tuesdays at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, on the corner of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard.

The lessons are open to the public. The classes cost $5 per lesson. Singles and couples are welcome.

Diabetes support group

The diabetes support group at Walnut Towers will meet Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 1:30 p.m. in the eighth-floor community room.

The program will be “Your Feet: How to Prevent Falls and Diabetic Shoe Fittings,” presented by Amanda Distefano, Washington County Health Department, and John Lipscomb, Advanced Diabetic Solutions.

The support group is open to individuals who live at Walnut Towers and anyone in the community. It provides a forum for educating individuals with diabetes to help manage their disease and to gain support from others.

The support group is sponsored by the Washington County Health Department, Hagerstown Housing Authority and the Washington County Commission on Aging.
