Gerald T. “Butch” Stine, 66, of Hagerstown passed away on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born May 5, 1947, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John L. and Edith F. (King) Stine.

Gerald was a 1966 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969. Gerald was a member of Falling Waters AMVETS Post No. 38 and the Williamsport American Legion Post No. 202.

He worked as a truck driver for S.L. Wroten, A.J. Taylor and Bowman.

Gerald loved to fish and ride around on his scooter. Elvis Presley was his favorite entertainer, and he loved listening to his music and spending time with his faithful dog, Angel.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Carolyn M. (Hoffman) Stine; a son, William Thomas Stine and wife, Misty, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a daughter, Janet Marie Fink and husband, Steve, of Williamsport; a sister, Joanne Winebrenner and husband, Paul, of Hagerstown; and a granddaughter, Brittany Dispanett.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carole Nicole Stine, and a brother, Richard Wayne Stine.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Ruth Ebersole officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with military honors.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests that casual clothing be worn in lieu of suits. It’s what Butch would have wanted!
