Janet Viola Chaney, 95, of National Pike, Clear Spring, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Williamsport Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 22, 1917, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Allen C. Tosten and Carry "Rock" Tosten.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Washington Chaney, in 1981.

Janet was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Clear Spring and Dry Run Homemakers.

She was employed by E.J. Fennel Co. in earlier years.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd A. Chaney and wife, Patricia, and Herman R. Chaney and wife, Ruby, all of Clear Spring; five grandchildren, Matthew L. Chaney, Eric C. Chaney, David R. Chaney, Mark C. Chaney and Elizabeth A. Burriss; and six great-grandchildren, Seth Chaney, Mark Chaney, Kelsey Chaney, Christopher Chaney, Morgan Burriss and Mitchell Burriss.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Trumpower and Lavena Trumpower; and a brother, Allen C. Tosten Jr.

Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Allen Reed will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon.
