FirstEnergy offering education grants

AKRON, Ohio — Educators have until Sept. 16 to apply for FirstEnergy Corp’s education grants for the 2013-14 school year.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, or STEM Classroom Grants of up to $500 will be awarded for creative, individual classroom projects for grades kindergarten through 12. The grants are available to educators and youth groups in communities served by FirstEnergy’s 10 electric operation companies and in communities where the company operates generating plants or does business.

Grants will be awarded on the recommendations of the FirstEnergy Advisory Council. Winners will be notified Oct. 7. More than 1,000 STEM grants have been awarded since 1986.
