South High Alumni Association yard sale Sept. 21

South Hagerstown High’s Alumni Association will hold a yard sale Saturday, Sept. 21, on the school grounds from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Setup begins at 7 a.m.

The event will take place rain or shine.

The cost to rent a space is $10. Registration is required.

All proceeds go to the scholarship fund.



Diabetes support group


The diabetes support group at Walnut Towers will meet Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 1:30 p.m. in the eighth-floor community room.

The program will be “Your Feet: How to Prevent Falls and Diabetic Shoe Fittings,” presented by Amanda Distefano, Washington County Health Department, and John Lipscomb, Advanced Diabetic Solutions.

The support group is open to individuals who live at Walnut Towers and anyone in the community. It provides a forum for educating individuals with diabetes to help
manage their disease and to gain support from others.

The support group is sponsored by the Washington County Health Department, Hagerstown Housing Authority and the Washington County Commission on Aging.

Bingo planned


Western Enterprise Ladies Auxiliary will hold a Coach Bingo Sunday, Oct. 20, at Western Enterprise Fire Co., 526 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown.

The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and bingo begins at 2 p.m.

There will be 29 games of bingo, raffles and tip jars available. The kitchen will be open for lunch purchases. Attendees must be 16 to play bingo and 18 to play tip jars.

Tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Neighborhood group set to meet Tuesday


Neighborhoods 1st Elizabethtown East will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m.
in the upstairs
portion of the Corner Pub. Historic Sanborn maps that show portions of the neighborhood in the late 1800s will be given out. Snacks will be provided.

In addition, a head count is needed for the fall picnic. The location has yet to be determined.



Hagerstown Lions Club


Tuesday — Alan Clingan, food coordinator for the Maryland Department of Human Resources, will talk about food distribution to the needy.



Museum event


The “Life, Work and Legacy of Ian Hornak” will be presented by Eric Ian Hornak on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

There will be a catered dinner by Bagel-Lisious in the museum’s Kaylor Atrium at 6 p.m., followed by the lecture in the museum’s
Bowman Concert Gallery at 7 p.m.

Tickets for dinner and the lecture cost $25 for nonmembers and $20 for museum members. Tickets for the lecture only cost $5 for nonmembers and are free to museum members.

Halfway LL to hold bingo


Halfway Little League has tickets available for its Coach and Cash Bingo set for Sunday, Sept. 29, at The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 in Williamsport.

Doors open at 11 a.m. and bingo begins at 1 p.m.

Prizes will be Coach bags, along with a cash prize.

Tickets cost $35 per person and include lunch, 20 games of regular bingo, five special games and the chance to win a door prize.

There also will be raffles, a 50-50 and tip jars, including King Tuts.
