Mail Call - Sept. 2

September 01, 2013

“I see where the Suns might finally be moving to Fredericksburg. It’d be nice if they would take those three councilmen, who are like three peas in a pod, and send them along with them.”
— Pondsville

“It is Thursday the 22nd. I just wanted to say ‘Amen’ to Tim Rowland’s column in the paper. If there’s one thing we should be doing, it’s moving schools toward full year, rather than fewer days in the school year, and we really need to concentrate on education. So way to go, Tim. I bet a lot of people agree with you.”
— Washington County

“Hagerstown caller, attacks on embassies occurred under the past five presidents. The difference in Benghazi is there is evidence to support the fact the State Department ignored the emails, cables. Ambassador Stevens, his colleagues asked for help several times in 2012. CIA officers testified they were denied help when they told the State Department the annex was under fire.”
— Sharpsburg

“I heard that several small towns along the canal and Potomac River are planning to increase property taxes, raise sewer rates, and add a business tax on local merchants and landlords. Town pet license is even being considered, and we understand that many towns have lost major businesses and have to go find revenue somewhere, but really, come on now. We are all hurting. We are looking to towns to help us update our buildings, building us up, build business in our town, and watch out for us, their residents that are supporting them. We want you to do the best for us.”
— Williamsport

“Hagerstown caller, downtown caller, senior citizen. Mayor Gysberts, Don Munson, I am extremely disappointed in you two. Mayor Gysberts, you were supposed to protect the older people downtown, while getting the baseball team a place to be. Senior citizens helped you get elected and Mr. Munson get elected. We just couldn’t get rid of ... so thank you for selling us out.”
— Hagerstown

“What has happened in this world today? I’ll tell you. It’s anger. So much anger, and everyone thinking of themselves. Just read Mail Call. All people do is complain about everything. We need to start being nicer and start thinking of others.”
— Halfway

“The two political parties need to change their names so that they reflect better what they really believe in. The Republican Party needs to change its name to the Constitution Party, and the Democrat Party needs to change its name to the Socialist Party of America.”
— Hagerstown

“I’ve just been reading The Herald-Mail on Monday, Aug. 19, and I’m reading this story about how the poor ... how the economy is hitting the poor people in London, and after I read this whole story, it just seems to me like I was reading a story about the U.S., not London, not anyplace else but the U.S. Do our Congress ... whoever the rest of his colleagues are, do they not realize that this country has poor people, too, and that we’re living under the same conditions that the poor people in London are?”
— Falling Waters, W.Va.

“If you build it, they will come.”
— Williamsport
