A Washington County man has been charged with taking part in an armed home invasion Thursday night on Clinton Avenue near Hagerstown, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

Cody Samuel Fiery, 18, of Greencastle Pike has been charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, malicious destruction of property over $500, possession of a handgun, conspiracy to use a handgun during a violent crime and use of a handgun during a violent crime, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Deputies said they responded to a report of a home invasion at 11 p.m. Thursday in the 10900 block of Clinton Avenue.

An investigation determined that two people kicked open the rear door of the home to get inside. When they were confronted by the occupants, one of the intruders pulled a handgun, the release said.

One of the occupants managed to slam the door shut, causing the intruders to flee, the sheriff’s office said.

Fiery was identified as one of the alleged intruders and arrested, the release said. He was taken to Central Booking for processing.

The investigation is still ongoing, deputies said.
