Joseph and Bette Sokol celebrate 60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sokol Sr. celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 3, 2013.

They were married Aug. 1, 1953, at Fort Benning, Ga., while Joe was attending Officer’s Training School.

The Sokols have four children, Joseph Sokol Jr. (wife Melody), J. Michael Sokol (wife Linda), Steven  Sokol, DDS, deceased, and M. Kathleen Greco (husband Ron). They are blessed with four grandchildren, Laura, Alan, Kevin and Mark; stepgrandson, James Clark, and stepgreat-granddaughter, Aurora.

Joe taught school in Newark, Del., and Washington County, Md., for 38 years. He also retired from the Maryland National Guard as captain after 20 years of service including two years of active duty with a year in Japan.

Bette is a registered nurse, having graduated in 1952 from Methodist Hospital in Gary, Ind.

The couple celebrated this wonderful occasion at the home of son, Mike and wife, Linda, joined by son, Joe and family of San Jose, Calif., daughter Kathy of Palm Springs, Calif., brother Paul Estock of Ocala, Fla., and nephew Mark Estock and his two sons of Fort Mill, S.C.


Their wedding vows were repeated by the Rev. George Limmer of St. Mary’s Church in Hagerstown.
