August 29, 2013

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A 20-year-old man was arraigned Wednesday on charges stemming from vandalism at the Opequon Motors car dealership in Martinsburg last week, city police said Wednesday.

Devin T. Hite of Yarrow Circle in Martinsburg was arraigned by Berkeley County Magistrate Betty Jo Hersh on felony counts of destruction of property and fourth-degree arson, Detective J.D. Luciano of the Martinsburg Police Department said in a news release.

Hite turned himself in to police Wednesday, Luciano said.

Police said eight cars — new and used — were damaged at the dealership, including one in which a cinderblock was thrown into the windshield, according to court records.

Damage estimates totaled $8,675, court records said.

Police said in court records that the defendant admitted that he damaged the vehicles, and was highly intoxicated and “in a rage.”
