Maugansville Pride Day to be held Saturday

Maugansville Ruritan Club will hold its 33rd annual Maugansville Pride Day Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ruritan community park and building on Maugans Avenue.

There will be 50 craft vendors and free entertainment throughout the day. 

New this year, there will be a “Cow Drop” sponsored by Chick-fil-A at 1 p.m. The event will feature 100 plush cows with prizes attached that will be parachuting from the top of a hook-and-ladder firetruck. 

The menu includes hand-dipped ice cream, peanut fries, country ham sandwiches, Italian sausages, funnel cakes, soups, hot dogs, and desserts. 

Several other attractions will be going on throughout the day. 

A portion of the proceeds will be used to aid major medical bills for Nicole Sticker.


Senior Friendship Club

The Maugansville Senior Friendship Club will meet Tuesday at noon at the Maugansville Ruritan Building, 18007 Maugans Ave. in Maugansville 

The agenda will include sharing members’ summer activities as well as planning for the upcoming fall and winter meetings. The community is invited.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch.

Senior Connection

The fall/winter schedule for the Cearfoss Senior Connection begins Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, 14010 Greencastle Pike in Hagerstown.

It will continue to meet each Tuesday. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch.

This week’s program will be “Favorite 8-Tracks and Records,” so be sure to bring and share. All seniors are welcome.

Potomac Highland WW  II vets meet Wednesday

The Potomac Highlands World War II Veterans Roundtable group will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

The meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month and are open to WWII veterans, their families and the public. 

The group is always looking for speakers to address the group.

Fitness classes at Maugansville Elementary

Washington County Recreation Department will offer fitness classes this fall at Maugansville Elementary School on Maugans Avenue.  

Zumba will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept 10 to Dec. 5, from 6:15 to 7 p.m.  The classes cost $10 for county residents, $50 for nonresidents and $32 for those 55 and older.

  “Work Out Your Way”, which is three different 30-minute workouts on different days, will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m.  Tuesday’s workout is “Hybrid Cardio,” Wednesday workout is “Muscles at Work” and Thursday workout is “Step Fusion.”  The classes begin the week of Sept. 10  and end Dec. 12. The cost for one class per week is $20 for county residents, $25 for nonresidents and $16 for seniors. The cost for two classes per week is $30 for county residents, $35 for nonresidents, and $24 for seniors.  The cost for three classes per week is $50 for county residents, $55 for nonresidents  and $40 for seniors.

Children’s Village golf tournament

 Children’s Village of Washington County will host its 19th annual Keep Our Kids Safe four-man scramble golf classic Friday, Sept. 6, at Black Rock Golf Course.

The putting contest begins at 1 a.m. and the shotgun start is at noon. Hole-in one cash prize is $25,000, with $2,500 cash prize for putting contest. Many other prizes will be awarded.

The entry fee costs $100 per player. New teams that have never participated in the tournament can take advantage of a special four-man team discount of $360 or $90 per player.

Dinner follows the tournament with a bagged lunch and goodie bag before the shotgun start.

Corporate sponsor packages are available as well as a hole and cart sponsor opportunities.

Women’s Club welcome coffee

 The Women’s Club of Hagerstown will hold a welcome-back coffee for new and prospective members on Friday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m. at the Women’s Club, 31 S. Prospect St. 

The club offers a variety of activities such as gardening, bridge, book club, hosting seasonal events-there’s something for everyone.  Coffee, tea and home-baked tidbits will be served.

Line dance lessons

The Hagerstown Country Western Dance Association will hold eight weeks of line dance lessons starting Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on the corner of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard. The eight consecutive Tuesday eve lessons are open to the public and the cost is $5 per lesson. Both singles and couples are welcome.
