August 28, 2013

HAGERSTOWN — Dakota Bacus pitched six shutout innings in his first appearance for Hagerstown, and Wander Ramos had two hits and two RBIs as the Suns defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 4-2 on Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium to snap a two-game skid.

The Suns, who won the first-half title in the South Atlantic League Northern Division this season, remain one game behind the first-place West Virginia Power in the second-half standings. The Power also won Wednesday.

Bacus (1-0) allowed one hit, four walks and no runs while striking out two in six innings to get the victory.

He was given a 2-0 run lead to work with in the bottom of the first as the first four Suns batters reached base against Lakewood’s Ramon Oviedo (1-4). Isaac Ballou singled, Tony Renda was hit by a pitch and Shawn Pleffner and Ramos hit RBI singles.

The Suns increased their lead to 4-0 in the fifth. Ramos hit an RBI double and scored on a single by Mike McQuillan.

The BlueClaws cut it to 4-2 in the eighth on Willie Carmona’s two-out, two-run homer to left off Justin Thomas.

Bryan Harper pitched a scoreless ninth to get his first save for Hagerstown.

The Suns finished with nine hits, including two each by Renda, Estarlin Martinez and Ramos.
