August 28, 2013

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A $150,000 allocation for taxiway rehabilitation at Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport is among more than $6 million in federal funding announced Wednesday for improvements at several West Virginia airports.

The funding for Shepherd Field, which is south of Martinsburg, and improvements at airports in Barbour, Braxton, Greenbrier, Harrison, Marion, Mercer, Monongalia, Nicholas, Raleigh, Randolph, Upshur, and Wood counties, was announced by Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin, and U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall, in a news release.

“Our local airports are critical to West Virginia’s economy now and in the future,” Rockefeller said in a news release.

“They open our state to business opportunities and tourism, and provide a safe and convenient way for West Virginians to travel,” he said.

“This grant funding will make sure the state’s airports remain safe and running,” Rockefeller said in the release.

The funding comes from the Federal Aviation Administration, which Rockefeller oversees as chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.
