Three taken to hospital after minivan strikes utility pole on Leitersburg Smithsburg Road

LEITERSBURG — Three people were taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning after a minivan struck a utility pole in the 21700 block of Leitersburg Smithsburg Road near Leitersburg, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Two adults and a 2-year-old child were taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown with what were believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries, said Deputy 1st Class David Haugh of the sheriff’s office.

The road remained closed until about 11:15 a.m., after a towtruck the minivan from the accident scene.

The utility pole was leaning slightly, but no wires appeared to be down.
