August 28, 2013

BOONSBORO — Three people were taken to the hospital after a car was struck by a Boonsboro Police Department sport-utility vehicle Tuesday afternoon on Shepherdstown Pike near Monroe Road, Boonsboro Police Chief Charles Stanford said Wednesday.

The accident happened at about 3:45 p.m., when a Chevrolet Tahoe being driven east on Shepherdstown Pike by Officer Shawn Faith made a U-turn to stop a westbound vehicle, Stanford said.

He said the Chevrolet struck a Honda that was approaching behind the Chevrolet from the east.

“The (SUV) turned in to the path of the Honda,” Stanford said.

The occupants of the Honda, Jennifer Thompson, 29, of Keedysville, and a small child, were taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown to be treated for minor injuries, according to Stanford.

Faith also was taken to Meritus with minor injuries, Stanford said.

Stanford said the police department was in the process of determining whether to issue a citation.
