Meet the teachers Wednesday night at high school

Williamsport High School will hold its meet-the-teacher night Wednesday night, beginning at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium. Parents and students are invited.

After a brief program, parents can follow their child’s schedule to meet the teacher and receive a brief summary of the class.

Rock concert quickly approaching

Rockin’ at River Bottom, a rock concert at Williamsport’s River Bottom Park along the Potomac River, is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14. The gates open at 11 a.m. The bands will play from 2 to 9:30 p.m.

The featured bands include Steelheart, Rhino Bucket, So Low, Sharpening Stone and Ever Rise. The event is hosted by Don Jamieson of “That Metal Show.”

The bands are planning to hold meet-and-greet sessions with fans.

Sophisti’Cats to present dinner theater benefit

The Williamsport High School Sophisti’Cats will hold a spaghetti dinner and cabaret on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

All proceeds will be donated to the Taylor McNaney Benefit Fund to assist Taylor’s family with recovery costs. Taylor is a recent graduate of WHS who was seriously injured in an automobile accident.

Advertising ads available in sports program

The Williamsport High School Athletic Boosters are putting together the annual sports program, highlighting all of the athletic teams, coaches and homecoming court.

Parents of senior athletes can purchase a senior acknowledgment ad in the program, including a color photo, for $50. Brief “best wishes” ads are also available for any athlete for $10. Business advertising space is available with various pricing options.

Space is limited. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 13.

Fall exercise classes scheduled at 4-Star

The Washington County Recreation Department has scheduled its fall fitness classes at 4-Star Athletic Complex, 30 Milestone Drive, in Williamsport.

Morning classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 10 to Dec. 5, from 10 to 11 a.m. Evening classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays, from Sept. 9 to Dec. 4, from 6 to 7 p.m.

The classes cost $45 for county residents, $55 for nonresidents, and $36 for those 55 and older.

Drop-in Zumba classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.

The class costs $2 per class, paid at the door.

Clothes of Hope schedule for September

Clothes of Hope Ministries at Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., provides gently used and some new clothing for residents.

It will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7; Thursday, Sept. 19; and Monday, Sept. 23. It will be open from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 and 26; and Monday, Sept. 16.

Gently used, clean fall and winter clothes (no socks or undergarments will be accepted) can be dropped off when the Clothes of Hope is open. In addition, it will accept gently used clean clothes from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Sept. 4, 11, 18 and 25.

There is no charge for clothing. Monetary donations are accepted.
