Mobile food pantry set at Johnson Center

Robert W. Johnson Community Center, formerly Memorial Recreation Center, 109 W. North Ave., Hagerstown, in a collaborative effort with the Maryland Food Bank, will become a mobile food pantry.

Each month, food will be delivered to the center and be available to the community for distribution.

To qualify for food, each person must sign in and pick up food at the center on the specified dates and times. Food will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and accepted in “as-is” condition.

The next scheduled distributions will be Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Women’s Club to hold open house

The Women’s Club, 31 S. Prospect St., will hold a welcome-back coffee for new and prospective members Friday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m. 

Coffee, tea and home-baked items will be served while members discuss activities the club offers.

Mount Zion Church plans gospel concert

The gospel-singing group Daystar will present a concert Sunday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion Church, 14336 Greencastle Pike, Cearfoss.

A goodwill offering will be taken for the group and a basket will be placed in the front of the church for contributions to help with cemetery maintenance.

Refreshments will be served.

Emmanuel Methodist Church to hold auction

Emmanuel United Methodist Church will hold its sixth annual auction Saturday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m.  

Homemade food and balloon pops will be sold.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Holly Place on South Potomac Street in Hagerstown, as well as financial obligations for the church.

Winter Street School Alumni planning trip

The Winter Street School Alumni is planning a trip to Root’s Country Market and Auction and the American Music Theatre in Lancaster County, Pa., on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The bus will depart from Valley Mall at 7:45 a.m. and return at about 7:30 p.m.

The cost is $84 per person.
