Guided tours to include visits to four Western Maryland wineries

August 27, 2013

Beginning Saturday, Sept. 7, Antietam Tours will operate guided tours and transportation to four of the five wineries on the Antietam Highlands Wine Trail in Western Maryland.

There are six tours scheduled for September and October, and groups of at least six can create custom tour packages for other dates.

Each daylong tour includes transportation to and from Hagerstown or Frederick, Md., cold bottled water and snacks on the bus, and a tasting at each location. The tastings at Orchid Cellar and Distillery Lane Ciderworks include a souvenir wine glass. Participants can have lunch (not included in tour fee) at The Main Cup in Middletown, Md., and, if time allows, make a stop at Allenberg Orchards near Smithsburg for locally grown produce.

The Antietam Highlands Wine Trail, one of six scenic wine trails in Maryland, encompasses portions of Washington and Frederick counties in Maryland and boasts five wineries: Big Cork Vineyards, Distillery Lane Ciderworks, Knob Hall Winery, Orchid Cellar Winery and Red Heifer Winery.

Scheduled dates are: Saturday, Sept. 7, festival at Distillery Lane Ciderworks; Saturday, Sept. 14; Saturday, Sept. 21; Saturday, Oct. 12; Saturday, Oct. 19; and Saturday, Oct. 26.

The tour costs $69 per person. Reservations are required.
