Blind Industries to hold 6th picnic

August 27, 2013

Blind Industries and Services of Maryland’s Seniors Achieving Independent Living program will host its sixth annual Washington County Community Picnic on Friday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m.

The event will take place at Pangborn Park’s east pavilion at 591 Pangborn Blvd. in Hagerstown.

The picnic is free, and blind and visually impaired people of all ages are encouraged to attend.

The picnic will feature food, music, special guests and demonstrations of products adapted to the needs of blind and visually impaired people.

For anyone experiencing vision loss, this is an opportunity to meet visually impaired people who are experiencing similar life changes due to vision loss, and are in the process of taking control of their lives and regaining independence.

The program provides blind and low-vision seniors with nonvisual skills training in Braille, specially adapted computers, white-cane travel and independent home living, as well as group activities and support group meetings.

The classes take place twice weekly at Blind Industries at 322 Paca St. in Cumberland, Md.

The Senior Services Division conducts weekly skills training workshops, along with monthly support group meetings for Hagerstown seniors, at Trinity Lutheran Church at 15 Randolph Ave.

To make reservations for the picnic, call Roger Williamson at 301-724-4111 or 1-888-267-4111.
