No charges will be filed in a Sunday afternoon accident in which a 9-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle east of Hagerstown because the boy was determined to be at fault, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy, who had what were believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries, was taken to Meritus Medical Center on Sunday, emergency service officials have said.
The incident at Youngstoun Drive and Robinwood Court was reported at 1:12 p.m. Sunday.
A contributing factor in the accident was that the boy was riding his bicycle against the flow of traffic, according to a voice mail from Deputy 1st Class Carly Hose, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
Bicyclists are to follow the same rules of the road as motor vehicles, riding with the flow of traffic and abiding by stop signs and traffic signals, Hose said.
