Fall yoga workshops

Shepherdstown, W.Va. — Jala Yoga at Mellow Moods Cafe and Juice Bar, 117 W. German St., Shepherdstown, announces its fall workshops, aimed for people interested in bringing more yoga into their lives. Registration for the workshops is available online at www.jalyogaflow.com.

 Coredio Bootcamp will be led by certified personal trainer Paula Barnes. This workshop will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 5 to Nov. 7. Cost is $125. Coredio Bootcamp will boost stamina, build strength, increase range of motion and improve overall fitness.  

Jala Yoga owner Christa Mastrangelo Joyce will teach Yoga for Athletes from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays from Sept. 7 to Sept. 28. Cost is $36. To kick off the series, Christa will teach a free class 6 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Two Rivers Treads. In this workshop, participants will learn how to use body and breath for greater performance and endurance, as well as gain balance, strength, and flexibility.

Also in September is an open house for people interested in joining Jala Yoga’s next Yoga Teacher Training Session. The open house is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. The 2014 Yoga Teacher Training will run from March to November.

Suicide prevention walk

Out of Darkness Community Walk, a walk to prevent suicide, will be Saturday, Sept. 7, at Hagerstown City Park, off Virginia Avenue. Check in is from 8 to 9 a.m. Walk is from 9 a.m. to noon.

Walk with Tori

Walk with Tori will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at Doubs Woods Park, off Maryland Avenue, Hagerstown. Event raises funds to help find a cure and raise awareness about scleroderma. Search for Walk with Tori on Facebook for more information.

Dance classes for kids

 Shepherdstown, W.Va. —Goose Route Arts Collaborative will offer two sessions of dance and creative movement classes for kids in September. The classes take place at the Shepherdstown Train Station and are taught by Goose Route director Kitty Clark. Goose Route’s classes focus on appropriate developmental stages of movement, creative problem-solving, cooperation and respect for others.

Mini Movers is for ages 3 to 5. The class meets Mondays, Sept. 9 to Oct. 21 (Session I) and Oct. 28 to Dec. 16 (Session II), from 4:30 to 5 p.m.  

The cost for Session I is $38.50 if registered by Aug. 31; $45.50 if registered after. Session II is $33 if registered by Oct. 21; $39 if registered after.

Meant to Move is for ages 5 to 8. The class meets Mondays, Sept. 9 to Oct. 21 (Session I) and Oct. 28 to Dec. 16 (Session II), from 5 to 5:45 p.m.  The cost for Session I is $56 if registered by Aug. 31; $63 if registered after. Session II is $48 if registered by Oct. 21; $54 if registered after Oct. 21.
