August 24, 2013

Lana “Cookie” Hoy, 70, of Hagerstown, Md., peacefully passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Dec. 12, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Lillian and William Burns.

Cookie was truly the backbone of the family and the matriarch who held the family together. She loved being in the company of family and close friends. She worked very hard to protect, provide for and take care of her family.

From grandson Damian: “I walk to you, knowing you’re not there ... but when I see you, I cry for you to come. I held you, kissed you, ran my fingers through your hair, begging you to come back, but still no response. Now I sit and wait for the day you tell me to come to you ... I love my grama.”

She is survived by daughters, Alesia Fennell (Stephanie), Shirley Burnett and Debbie Lovett; sons, Eric Burns and Jeff Burns; sisters, Tanya Burns and Angel Burns; brother, Sheldon Burns; grandsons, Damian, Justin and Ellis; granddaughter, Brittany; niece, Asia, and nephew, Marcello, who were like her own children; three other nieces; and several great-grandchildren.

She is now in the comforting arms of her beloved son, Drexell Burns; and dear brothers, Lamont and Keith Burns, both of Hagerstown, who preceded her in death.

Memorial donations, cards and condolences may be sent in care of Alesia Fennell, 2029 Windsong Drive, Unit 3A, Hagerstown MD 21740.

During this extremely difficult time for the family, a memorial service honoring Cookie will be planned for a later date.
