Grover Cleveland “Clevie” Smith Jr., 92, of Hagerstown passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born April 7, 1921, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Smith Sr. and Clara May (Alexander) Smith.

Clevie was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the 3rd Division, 7th Infantry.

He retired as a refinisher with Brandt Cabinet Works in Hagerstown.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen Madeline (Breeden) Smith; four daughters, Deborah Helen Nichols, Diana Lynn Billmyer, Sandra Jean Davies and Vickie Kay Dorsey, all of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Harvey Smith Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 siblings.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Stewart Torres officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.

The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour before services at the funeral home.
