Mail Call - Aug. 23

August 22, 2013

“The do-nothing mayor and city council are out of time to save the Suns. Yes, it will be your fault if they go. Others have come and gone, but it is you, the newbie and the retreads, who have done nothing. Either vote to save the team or vote to let them go, so the city can move on and we can get better representatives in office. This mayor and city council are jokes.”

“I see where our congressman has introduced a bill to increase the minimum hourly wage. Fine, it goes with Democrat party principles, but I think the bill should also be accompanied by a bill requiring banks to give a minimum of 3 percent on savings accounts, so that seniors and other ordinary people will have the money to pay for the concurrent increase in the cost of living. Banks have not been paying interest on savings for quite a while now. It’s unbelievable that no congressperson ever came to the rescue about this outrageous policy of banks being allowed to commandeer the just interest compensations of savers.”

“We read in the paper every day of thefts of copper, equipment and numerous other items, but we never see anything about people or businesses who buy these stolen goods. I would like to see Herald-Mail do an in-depth investigation of who is buying these goods and what law enforcement is doing to arrest and prosecute these buyers. If you buy stolen or illegal property, you are no better than the thieves or sellers. This goes for drug users, too. You are supporting the murderers who protect their territory at any cost to supply you with your poison of choice.”
— Williamsport

“This is in reference to Wednesday’s caller from Chewsville. I just want to say that I think President Terry Baker of the commissioners is the very best president the county commissioners has ever had. He always takes his time to make a decision, and he doesn’t make a decision until he has all the information. He doesn’t just jump ... So there you have it. Kudos, President Terry Baker. You’re the best president we’ve ever had.”
— Hagerstown

“The Federal Reserve is inflating the economy by selling off securities to its primary dealers. By devaluing the dollar, the Fed thinks it will increase U.S. competitiveness in international trade. Tariffs would accomplish the same thing, without creating a 1920s-style bubble, while simultaneously creating a new revenue stream.”

“This is for the person who wanted to know if there was a recipe to kill ants. I would advise her to get in touch with my wife. Anything my wife cooks would probably kill ants.”
— Sharpsburg

“Every day I read in the paper where there’s a shooting or a stabbing at a Martinsburg nightclub or in surrounding areas, and I often wondered, if that was in Hagerstown, they would close that bar or tavern up in a couple days. But down there it seems like it can happen a couple times a week, and no problem. It’s just something I’ve been noticing.”
— Hagerstown

“With winter coming on, I think the governor of the state of Maryland should initiate a snow tax.”
— Hagerstown

“I think it’s time for the city council and Lewis Metzner to get the message that the voters of Hagerstown didn’t want the ball park or ball stadium anymore, and I think it’s time to send Mr. Metzner to a retirement village.”
— Hagerstown
