Maugansville Pride Day

The Maugansville Ruritan Club will celebrate the 33rd annual Maugansville Pride Day on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ruritan community park and building on Maugans Avenue.

There will be 50 craft vendors and free entertainment throughout the day. New this year will be a “Cow Drop” sponsored by Chick-fil-A at 1 p.m.

Hand-dipped ice cream, peanut fries, country ham sandwiches, Italian sausages and funnel cakes will be available. Soups, hot dogs and desserts will be in the Ruritan building. 

Other attractions will be going on throughout the day. 

The event supports the Ruritan Club’s work in the community.


Fire company to hold barbecue

The Maugansville Fire Co. will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until sold out) at the station at 13730 Maugans Ave. 

A half-chicken dinner costs $6.50 and includes baked beans, applesauce and roll. A half-chicken alone costs $4.50.

Proceeds benefits the fire company


Senior friendship club

The Maugansville Senior Friendship Club will meet Tuesday, Sept. 3, at noon at the Maugansville Ruritan Building, 18007 Maugans Ave. 

The agenda will include sharing members’ summer activities, as well as planning for the upcoming fall and winter meetings.

Attendees are asked to bring their lunch. Old and new members are invited.

Children’s Village 

Children’s Village of Washington County will host its 19th annual Keep Our Kids Safe four-man scramble golf classic Friday, Sept. 6, at Black Rock Golf Course.

The putting contest begins at 11 a.m., and the shotgun start is at noon. The hole-in one cash prize is $25,000, with $2,500 in cash prize for the putting contest. Many other prizes will also be awarded.

The entry fee is $100 per player. New teams that have never participated in the tournament can take advantage of a special four-man team discount of $360 or $90 per player.

Dinner follows the tournament with a bagged lunch and goodie bag before the shotgun start.

Corporate sponsor packages are available as well as  hole and cart sponsor opportunities.

Children’s Village, a nonprofit organization, has provided free life-safety education to more than 50,000 elementary school children in Washington County or 2,000 public, private and home school students each school year.


Women’s Club plans welcome coffee

The Women’s Club of Hagerstown will hold a welcome back coffee for both new and prospective members on Friday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m. at the club, 31 S. Prospect St. 

The club offers a variety of activities such as gardening, bridge, book club and seasonal events. 

Attendees can learn about the club’s offerings and make new friends while having coffee, tea and home-baked tidbits in a friendly, relaxed setting.

Broadfording Church annual auction

The annual benefit auction of the Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, 14010 Greencastle Pike west of Hagerstown, is scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

There will be a silent auction from 9 a.m. to noon with live bidding starting at 10 a.m. 

Items include Longaberger baskets, baked goods, homemade candy, salsa, jelly, jewelry, golf packages, walking sticks and other handcrafted items.

Soup, sandwiches and baked goods will be available for purchase. 

All proceeds benefit the ministry center.

Line dance lessons

The Hagerstown Country Western Dance Association has scheduled eight weeks of line dance lessons starting Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on the corner of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard.

The Tuesday evening lessons are open to the public. The classes cost $5 per lesson.  Both singles and couples are welcome.

Ice cream social line dance

The Hagerstown Country Western Dance Association will host an ice-cream social for this month’s line dance on Saturday from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Building, 18007 Maugans Ave.

Admission costs $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers.

The dances are open to the public and both singles and couples are invited.
