Pa. youth volleyball coach charged in assault of teen male

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Chambersburg man who coached a Pennsylvania volleyball team has been charged with sexually assaulting an underage male player on his team.

Shawn Timothy Ranck, 32, of Cambridge Lane in Chambersburg is charged with indecent assault, corruption of a minor and criminal attempt involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Ranck was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Manns on Wednesday, where his bail was set at $250,000.

He was unable to post bail and was placed in the Franklin County Jail.

The male victim, who was 14 and 15 years old at the time of the alleged assaults, was coached by Ranck on the Chambersburg Area Volleyball Express travel team, police said in a news release.

Police said Ranck showed the boy pornographic movies, touched the boy inappropriately, provided alcohol and solicited oral sex.

The incidents occurred from the spring of 2012 to Jan. 1, 2013, at Ranck’s address on Cambridge Lane in Chambersburg and Boyer Mill Road in Hamilton Township, Pa., police said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m.
