Haitian boys' choir to perform

August 21, 2013

Les Petits Chanteurs, a 30-voice boys’ choir from the Port-au-Prince area of Haiti, accompanied by a chamber ensemble from the Holy Trinity Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m. at Saint John’s Episcopal Church at 101 S. Prospect St. in Hagerstown.

Holy Trinity Music School in Haiti, and its orchestras, choral groups and concert hall are gems of the country.

The school offers music education to children of all economic classes through two locations in the Port-au-Prince area.

Les Petits Chanteurs first toured the United States in 1984.

On this tour, the choir will sing at more than 30 concerts from Georgia to Maine. It aims to raise awareness of the rich musical traditions of Haiti and the importance of the school in the life of the country.

Since 2009, Holy Trinity Music School has had a partnership with the Organization of American States in a new initiative that seeks “to prevent youth violence and reduce school dropout rates in the Caribbean” through music education, and to use music to support development.
