C&O Canal days concert 

A concert by the Williamsport Community Band honoring lifelong Williamsport resident Lula (Brant) Harsh will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Byron Memorial Park in Williamsport.  

Lula grew up on the canal at Lockhouse 44 where her father, Harvey Brant, was the lockkeeper, opening and closing the lock, getting the canal boats through and on their way.

Lula celebrated her 100th birthday last September.

Gospel in the Park 

A gospel music concert will be held in the band shell at City Park in Hagerstown on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Gloryland Ramblers will perform at 7 p.m. as part of the Gospel in the Park music series.

Art in the Park

A gospel concert and picnic to benefit Contemporary School of the Arts and Gallery Inc. will be held Sunday, Sept. 1, from 4 p.m. until dusk at Doub’s Woods Park.

The featured performers will be Heavenly Sounds with Ron Lee, Ebeneezer Church Choir, Zion Bits Mime Group, Elvin Watkins, Faith Crumbly (storytelling) and Jesus Freaks.

Jonathan Hager House 

The Hager House in City Park in Hagerstown will open for tours beginning Friday, Sept. 6. The Hager House will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays for self-guided tours. Other times are available by appointment.

Women’s Club

The Women’s Club will host a welcome back coffee for those who might be interested in joining the club.

The event will be Friday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m. 

Coffee, tea and home-baked tidbits, along with a relaxed setting for a meet and greet session, will allow prospective members to become familiar with activities the club offers.

Bingo fundraiser

The South Hagerstown Junior Rebels Football Team will host a holiday meat bingo Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at Western Enterprise Fire Co., 526 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and bingo will begin at 2 p.m.

The prizes will consist of hams, turkeys, pork loins, shrimp and other items. 

Twenty-nine games of bingo will be offered, along with raffles and tip jars. The kitchen will be open for purchases. 

Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
