Robert W. “Bob” Clopper, 77, of Blue Mountain Estates in Smithsburg, Md., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born July 24, 1936, in Leitersburg, he was the son of the late Ernest L. “Mike” Clopper and Naomi Ellen (Warrenfeltz) Clopper.

He attended Leitersburg-area schools and Mount Aetna Seventh-day Adventist School.

He was employed for six years by the Hagerstown Shoe Factory, 26 years by Double-Day Book Binding Co. in Smithsburg and 10 years by the Washington County Board of Education before retiring in 1998.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Hilda Marie (Robertson) Clopper, whom he married July 3, 1958; children, Robert Lee Clopper and wife, Jan, of Smithsburg, Jeffery Lynn Clopper of Smithsburg, Michael Wayne Clopper and wife, Shannan, of Big Pool, Ronald Leroy Clopper of Smithsburg, Deborah Kay Repp and husband, Jody, of Williamsport, and Thomas Allen Clopper and wife, Lori, of Greencastle, Pa.; sister, Sarah E. Huntsberry and husband, Kenneth, of Smithsburg; brothers, James E. Clopper, and Ernest L. Clopper and wife, Shirley, all of Smithsburg; brother-in-laws, Richard Huntzberry of Hagerstown, and Kenneth Robertson and wife, Ruby, of Leitersburg; grandchildren, Amanda Clopper, Benjamin Clopper, Carrie Clopper, Craig Clopper, Zachary Clopper, Christine Repp, Morgan Clopper, Ethan Clopper, Brandon Blair and Jordan Blair, great-grandchildren, Keith Pettner, Madison Clopper, Paige Clopper, Remie Clopper, Rylee Clopper and Grace Canfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret J. Huntzberry; and one sister-in-law, Dena Clopper.

Services will be Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, with Pastor David Rawley officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Leitersburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
