Donald Irvin “Buck” Lewis Sr., 85, of Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of Sharpsburg, Md., passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home in Boonsboro, Md.
Born Sept. 19, 1927, in Breathedsville, Md., he was the son of the late John Luther and Nellie Bloom Ridenour Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Patricia LaPole Lewis, on Feb. 9, 1998.
He was employed by Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown until his retirement in 1994.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.
He was of the Episcopal faith.
He was a member of Conococheague Sportsman’s Club in Sharpsburg, Antietam American Legion Post 236 in Sharpsburg and AARP.
He was an avid Orioles and Redskins fan.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers.
He is survived by his son, Donald I. “Bubbie” Lewis Jr. and his wife, Colleen, of Hagerstown; sister, Beverly A. Spigler of Williamsport, Md.; brother, Dale L. Lewis Sr. of Sharpsburg; special nieces, Darlene Bartlett and Ann Ashbaugh; special nephews, Dale P. Jamison and Dale L. Lewis Jr., and great-niece, Katie Beall.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris L. Weaver, Waunita E. Jamison and Mildred Lewis; and four brothers, Edgar J. Lewis, William S. Lewis, John Lewis and Merle Lewis.
Graveside services will be Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg, with the Rev. Dean Pryor, hospice chaplain, officiating. Military graveside services will be provided by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 in Hagerstown.
