Richard E. Pepple, 75, of Pikeside Drive in Smithsburg, Md., passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Sept. 3, 1937, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Carl Richard and Violet Mae (Monninger) Pepple.

He attended Hagerstown High School.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was employed over the years by Pangborn, Baker Driveway and PIE.

He was a member of Greenbrier Baptist Church, Teamsters Union Local 992 and Funkstown American Legion Post 211, and was a lifetime member of Red Men Tribe 84 and AMVETS Post 10.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie J. (Seaton) Pepple, whom he married April 23, 1966; children, Kendra K. Churchey and husband, Dave, Wanda J. Sylvester and husband, Russ, Tony E. Pepple and companion, Dee Dupree, and Angela D. Smith and husband, John; brother, Charles Pepple; sister-in-law, Ida Johnson; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Max.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ann Middlekauff; two brothers, Carl and Terry Pepple; and one grandson.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Greenbrier Baptist Church, with Pastor George Snyder officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Greenbrier Baptist Church, 20810 National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713; or Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Arrangements were made by J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
