Mr. Joseph Stevenson Middour, 73, of 10168 Tomstown Road in Waynesboro, Pa., passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at his home.

Born June 17, 1940, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Lena S. (Stevenson) Middour.

He was a 1958 graduate of Waynesboro High School. He also attended Penn State University.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer who also served as a Quincy Township supervisor from 2000-06.

As a leader in the farming community, he was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award from the Franklin County Farm Bureau, and in 2006, along with his son, received the Franklin County Conservation Farmer of the Year.

He attended services at Ringgold Church of Christ in Ringgold, Md. He also was very active with the Franklin County Farm Bureau, serving as governmental relations director for many years. He served on the Franklin County Extension Board, Franklin County Planning Committee, Nutrient Management Board in Harrisburg, Pa., and Soil Conservation Board.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved to travel and enjoyed history.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mrs. Haydee Frances (Woodford) Middour, whom he married Aug. 14, 1965; five children, Kelly J. Hinson (Blair) of Clemson, S.C., Laurie A. Waltz (Jay) of Smithsburg, Md., Mary S. Jacobs (Lawton) of Chambersburg, Pa., Joseph E. Middour (Jessie) of Waynesboro and Jill M. Dice (Andy) of Fredericksburg, Pa.; an exchange student daughter, Glicia Souza of Sao Luis, Brazil; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean M. Middour.

Services will be Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Ringgold Church of Christ, 14426 Barkdoll Road, Hagerstown, with Pastor Donald Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. 

The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

In honor of his dedication to farming and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin County Farm Bureau, Farm Fun Fest, 185 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
