M. Alice Gardner, 87, of Sharpsburg, Md., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Reeder’s Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Md.

She was born Oct. 9, 1925, in Antietam Furnace, Md., to the late John Luther and Mary Eva Drenner Hetzel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Zimmerman “Pee Pee” Gardner on June 5, 2006.

She attended Antietam, Sharpsburg, and Boonsboro schools.
She was employed by L’Aiglon and EJ Fennel of Hagerstown, Md., until her retirement.

She was a member of Burnside First Church of God Sharpsburg. She taught Sunday school and Bible school, and was a choir member.

She was a member of AARP.

Survivors include her son, David Z. Gardner Jr. of Sharpsburg; daughter, Patricia Ann Eash of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters, Ruth Statler of Marion, Pa., and Mae O. Kauffman of Boonsboro; four grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sisters, June C. Myers and Irene Miller, and three brothers, John L. Hetzel, Carl L. Hetzel and Albert L. Hetzel Sr.

A memorial service will be held at Burnside First Church of God on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ernest E. Witmer officiating. Burial will be private.
