Kaplan students help local family affected by fatal fire

August 18, 2013

Students at Kaplan University recently raised more than $560 in gift cards for a local family affected by a fire.

Medical-assisting students at the Hagerstown campus recently held a gift card campaign to help a local family in the rebuilding process after a tragic fire. The fundraiser benefited the Lillard family, who lost two of their children in the Jan. 31 fire.

“The students were so overwhelmed by the tragedy affecting this family that they rallied to support this fundraiser as a class project,” said Lori Slick, allied health professor at Kaplan.

“It’s a small gesture in the realm of this tragedy, but hopefully it offers a bit of comfort.”

Gift cards collected were from Valley Mall, Kohl’s, Sears, Food Lion, Best Buy and others businesses
