Hagerstown officials and owner Malik Mehboob officially opened Checkers at 1720 Dual Highway in Hagerstown on Aug. 8.

The restaurant features a double drive-in with over-the-top checkerboard squares, chrome styling, red neon signs and classic food. Checkers is open every day from 10 a.m. to midnight.

To celebrate the opening, and in appreciation of its guests, Checkers offered the choice of any of its burgers for $1 all day on Aug. 8, with a limit of two per car or customer.

“We want to thank Malik Mehboob for bringing Checkers to Hagerstown and for creating 45 jobs, both part time and full time, for the area,” Hagerstown Economic Development Manager Jill Estavillo said in a news release. “The city is honored to be cutting the ribbon for this restaurant, and we invite our citizens and visitors to visit Checkers soon.”
