Scrapbook flea market fundraiser is Saturday

A Cancer Stinks scrapbook flea market fundraiser will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Club’s community building, 18007 Maugans Ave.

The event will have a variety of scrapbooking, stamping, crafting supplies, tools, products, machines and other items for sale.

The event will include food, drinks and raffles.

Individual tables can be rented through Miracles for Melanie.

Tables are limited. An 8-foot table costs $30 to rent. The tables will be rented on a first-come, first-served basis.

Admission is $5 at the door.

Broadfording Church to hold annual auction

Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, at 14010 Greencastle Pike west of Hagerstown, will hold its annual benefit auction Saturday, Aug. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon.


There will be a silent auction from 9 a.m. to noon with bidding starting at 10 a.m. 

Items include Longaberger baskets, baked goods, homemade candy, salsa, jelly, jewelry, golf packages, walking sticks and other handcrafted items.

There also will be soup, sandwiches and baked goods available for purchase.

All proceeds benefit the ministry center.

Children’s Village Golf Classic set for Sept. 6

Children’s Village of Washington County will host its 19th annual Keep Our Kids Safe Golf Classic Friday Sept. 6, at Black Rock Golf Course.

A putting contest begins at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start for the four-man scramble will be at noon. The hole-in-one cash prize is $25,000, with a $2,500 cash prize for the putting contest, Other prizes will be awarded.

The entry fee is $100 per player. New teams that have never participated in the tournament can take advantage of a special four-person team discount of $360 ($90 per player).

Dinner follows the tournament with a bagged lunch and goodie bag before the shotgun start. Corporate sponsor packages are available as well as hole and cart sponsorships.

All proceeds benefit the Children’s Village life-safety education program.

Children’s Village, a nonprofit organization, has provided free life-safety education to more than 50,000 elementary school children in Washington County or 2,000 public, private and home school students each school year.

Yard sale planned at church Sept 21

Haven Lutheran Church, at 1035 Haven Road, will hold a community yard and bake sale Saturday, Sept. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit Community of St. Dysmas, a prison ministry, and Micah’s Backpacks, a food supplement program for children in need.

The church is offering table space for the yard sale to anyone who would like a high visibility location to show off their goods.

A fee of $20 for table space will be donated to the charities. What you sell, you keep.

There will also be a bake sale by church members.
