Glenn Edward Flowers, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Loney and Anna Marie Powell Flowers.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was employed as a correctional officer at the Maryland Correctional Institution for 30 years, and was a former member of Tonoloway Rod and Gun Club.

He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, and especially adored his great-grandchildren.

He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing God's word with others.

Glenn was an avid NASCAR and Baltimore Orioles fan, and enjoyed hunting.     

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Madeline May Waugh Flowers; three daughters, Gloria Burke and husband, Eddie, of Hagerstown, Christi Wyrick and husband, Harry, of Newville, Pa., and Vicki Creek and husband, Wayne, of Hagerstown; a son, Bill Flowers and wife, Debbie, of Haltom City, Texas; a sister, Violet Vaughn of Hagerstown; a brother, Bernard Flowers of Grand Blanc, Mich.; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard Daughtridge will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hancock. Military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by AMVETS Post 10.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
