The Warwagens Air-Cooled VW Car Club will presents its Simple Transport 6 Air-cooled Volkeswagen automobile and custom/classic/vintage BMX bicycle show Saturday, Aug. 24, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fairgrounds Park in Hagerstown.

The entry fee is $10 per vehicle. There will not be an entry fee for those vehicles using stock 6-volt electrical systems.

The fee is $10 for vintage motorcycles (pre-1985) and $3 per bicycle. The entry fee for spectators is $3, with those 12 and younger admitted free.

There also will be $15 swap spaces and $15 used car sales spaces.

Patrons are asked to use the park entrance at 370 N. Cannon Ave.

The show is open to any German air-cooled vehicle, including Beetles, buses, Ghias, Type 3, dune buggies, kit cars, VW-based coachbuilt and Porsches.

The club also will hold a custom and classic bicycle and vintage motorcycle show. Bicycles from any year and style are encouraged. Classes will be based on projected turnout.

Commemorating its sixth year and extending the U.S. 66 theme, the club is offering free show car entry for any vehicle still operating on a 6-volt electrical system. Most VW and Porsche vehicles produced through 1966 used 6-volt systems. Some diehards and purists continue to use the factory systems.

There also will be a vintage motorcycle/mini-bike class. It is reserved for pre-1985 motorcycles from any manufacturer, extending the simple-transport theme.

The show is targeted toward the avid Air-Cooled VW enthusiast, and participants are encouraged to drive to the event.

The laid-back, family-style event will include concessions, restrooms and children’s activities.

Awards will be judged by participants and awarded to the top 26 entries. Additional awards will be presented for Promoter’s Choice, People’s Choice and Long Distance Award.

Raffle tickets will be available to entries and spectators for VW prizes and cash.

The event also will feature a VW tattoo contest, Kids Corner with assorted children’s entertainment, food vendors, new parts vendors and an open house at the park’s BMX track, which will receive proceeds from the event.

There also will be an open house at the BMX track. Long-sleeved shirts and long pants are required.
