Schultz takes lead in PGA Middle Atlantic Players tourney

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Beaver Creek Country Club pro Dirk Schultz took a one-stroke lead in the PGA Middle Atlantic Players Championship on Tuesday, firing a 2-under 70 on the Green course at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club.

Schultz is at 7-under 137 through two rounds, one shot ahead of Jim Estes. He had three birdies and one bogey on Tuesday.

“I played smart golf with good course management today, and that’s been evident in my play of late,” Schultz said.

Schultz needs a top-20 finish to qualify for the PGA Players National Championship in July 2014.

Pennsylvania Open washed out

HANOVER, Pa. — The second round of the Pennsylvania Open was rained out on Tuesday and rescheduled for today.

Chad Bricker, of Waynesboro, shot a 4-under 68 on Monday and is in a second-place tie, one shot behind Travis Howe. Defending champion Clayton Rotz, of Chambersburg, shot a 3-over 75 on Monday.
