Mail Call - Aug. 14

August 13, 2013

“To the person who freezes their table scraps until the night before trash pick-up, to save the garbage men from dealing with flies and maggots: If there were more people like you who have such consideration and respect for others, this world would be a better place. Thank you.”
— Sharpsburg

“I’d like to know why, when people work hard and they go to their job every day and do what they’re told, and then there’s people in there that do things that they shouldn’t do, they don’t get fired, but the good person gets fired, and they have to worry about how they’re going to pay their rent, buy their food, and do other things. Anybody else out there feel like that? They live in this country, they do right, and they get the dirty job, but the ones with all the money walk away with nothing.”
— Boonsboro

“Today, Tuesday, Aug. 6, article, ‘Robinwood Drive reduced to single lane in area where road project has begun,’ it states in the article that some drivers were confused by the road improvement project, and drove the wrong way. I have no idea how they could be confused. It is so well-marked, and there is absolutely no confusion. It’s very well-handled. The only problem I see is they’re probably on their cellphone or texting, or else they can’t read, because it is so obvious.”
— Hagerstown

“Have you ever noticed why Commissioner Terry Baker always votes differently than the other commissioners, or comments that he doesn’t have enough information? Wonder why that is.”
— Chewsville

“Why does the Washington County BOE have a signing ceremony for union employee pay raises, when the taxpayers of Washington County who are footing the bill don’t have a ceremony for the money that they’re contributing? Crazy.”
— Brightwood Acres East

“Is there any way we can compromise on trash pickup? Maybe pick up one day a week in the winter, and twice a week in the summer? The stench is unbearable ... and disgusting. Unlike the gentleman caller previously, I don’t have freezer room, to freeze my trash until it’s time to put it out.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m calling about the MVA. I went out there to get a title change. They charge $138, when they don’t have to do anything but punch a computer. And what gets me, they even charge you tax. I mean, when you get a vehicle and you swap a vehicle for one, why do you have to pay tax on it, and why is the price of this stuff so high? Somebody has to wake up around here in the Hagerstown area or something, and get a hold of these governors and get them voted out or something, because they’re just killing people.”
— Hagerstown
