Summer grads to be applauded and encouraged

August 12, 2013

Some were ahead of the game; some were behind. But all students who walked across the stage last week and received their high school diplomas deserve a round of applause.

“Summer school” is a term that strikes fear into the hearts of youngsters everywhere, but about 40 Washington County students hit the books instead of the pool and a jubilant graduation ceremony was the reward.

Superintendent Clayton Wilcox told the 21 graduates who attended the ceremony that they were an inspiration, and we agree.

Getting ahead in life so often requires efforts that take us outside our comfort zones, but in the end the rewards are well worth it.

Beyond that, once a person knows he or she is capable of going the extra mile, the job gets a lot easier. There will be a lot of extra miles to go in life, and these students have proved they are capable of making the grade.

And our advice for going forward? Don’t stop now.
