Pettyjohn matches feat of his brother

Mark Pettyjohn notched his first victory at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday night, racing to the Buchanan Auto Stores late models checkered flag in the 33rd annual Ernie D’s Shorty Bowers Bull Durham Championship/ 48th annual Johnny Roberts Memorial event.

Pettyjohn, from Delaware, earned his fourth overall victory in the Three State Flyers series. In May, his brother Kenny won a Three State Flyers event which was also his first victory at Hagerstown.

The Roberts Memorial was rained out in June and became a double event with the Ernie’s Bowers/Durham Championship event.

Kevin Boyer, of Frederick, Md., won the Ernie D’s pure stocks when Brian Miller was disqualified following a post-race inspection.

Gary Proctor, of Big Pool, earned his fifth D&D Auto Recycling hobby stock feature victory of the season.

Richard Gwizdale, of Inwood, W.Va., grabbed the lead on a restart with two laps to go and won the National Speed Supply/Dave Padula Motorsports four cylinder feature.

Matt Wallace, of Mount Airy, Md., won the 2nd annual Bill Bollinger Classic Racing Series feature.
