Potomac River tuber rescued

August 11, 2013

SANDY HOOK — Rescuers gave a woman a ride to shore Sunday after she lost her tube in the Potomac River and was found on a rock in the middle of the river, Potomac Valley Fire Chief Eric Gray said.

The woman was not injured, Gray said.

She had been on the rock for less than 30 minutes when she waved to rescuers, he said.

A passer-by heard the woman calling for help, Gray said.

The woman was in a stretch of the river south of Lock 34, across from where hikers access the Maryland Heights trailhead, Gray said.

The incident was reported at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday and the woman was rescued around noon, a Washington County 911 supervisor said.

Also responding were Brunswick, Md., ambulance and rescue, with a boat, and Washington County Special Operations, Gray said.
