Free workshop on maintaining perennial gardens planned Aug. 24

Washington County Master Gardener Will Godwin will hold a free workshop on creating and maintaining perennial gardens on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Western Maryland Hospital Center, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. 

Participants will learn how to design, plant and care for perennials, blooming plants which return year after year. 

The workshop will include a garden tour and hands-on training in deadheading and dividing perennials.

Guests should bring sun protection and garden gloves.

The class is free, requires no registration and will be held rain or shine.

Participants should park in the north parking lot and meet in the front lobby.

Volunteer educators with the University of Maryland Extension, master gardeners teach people safe, effective gardening practices that build healthy gardens and communities.  

They give educational talks, create demonstration gardens, offer plant clinics and therapeutic horticulture programs, and host information booths at community events in Washington County.
