Shepherdstown Rotary donates $500 to Shepherd University club

August 09, 2013

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — The Rotary Club of Shepherdstown has donated $500 to the Shepherd University Financial Planning Club.

The club is composed of undergraduate students enrolled in Shepherd University's Financial Planning Program.

The Rotary funds will be used to help a team of students compete in a national student financial planning competition that will be held in Orlando, Fla., in September.

The competition is sponsored each fall by the U.S. Financial Planning Association.

Last fall, a team of Shepherd students made it all the way to the competition's final round.  Shepherd's Financial Planning program was new at the time, beginning its first full academic year.

The Rotary Club made its donation at its July 30 weekly breakfast meeting at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown.

Receiving the donation were Financial Planning Club President Bonnie Bailey; Secretary Morgan Grega; and Treasurer Shelby Knepper.

They were accompanied by Rob Hoxton, the chief executive officer of HFI Wealth Management in Shepherdstown. Hoxton helped initiate Shepherd's Financial Planning Program and remains an adviser.
