Mail Call - Aug. 9

August 08, 2013

“I took my wife and my kids to the swimming pool, we enjoy going there ... on July 30, and the inmates are out doing yard work. But I don’t appreciate it when they stare at my wife and my kids. And you know, there are a lot of people out there looking for jobs, and they’re giving these inmates jobs around here in Williamsport, to do yard work and everything. I see one guy working, but the other two just keep staring in the fences, which (isn’t) right.”
— Williamsport

“About Leonard Pitts’ column, ‘Living on pennies at the Golden Arches,’ if you dig below the surface a few layers, you will find that the real reason a person cannot live on minimum wage is Obama’s Federal Reserve running wild, debasing our currency and fueling inflation, in spite of what the liars report about it in D.C. Our dollar is worth 6 cents versus what it was worth (.96) in 1926. That’s what printing Keynesian money does for you. Jim Rogers’ book, ‘Street Smarts,’ would be a good read for you.”
— Waynesboro, Pa.

“I think it’s time for the postmaster at the Franklin Street post office to let paid box holders have access to their mail 24 hours, seven days a week, by issuing each box holder a key to the front door. ... Charge a $5-a-key fee.”
— Hagerstown

“Does our tax dollars pay for your child’s college? No. So why should we pay for training camp for baseball players making hundreds of millions of dollars in salaries? Let them pay the tab. Why can’t we just drop the stadium deal? I’m tired of seeing it in the newspaper.”
— Clear Spring

“Mr. Pheil and the Economic Development Commission should worry more about attracting the super distribution centers and other businesses that show up routinely in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, instead of supporting the Hagerstown Suns.”
— Hagerstown

“Could someone please tell me, if a person wants to go to a church dinner or so on, why does the meal cost so much in advance, or more at the door? Some of us can’t get to buy the advance tickets. Or would it be just all right to go ahead and call the establishment and reserve a place?”
— Hagerstown

“I would like to know if anybody out there has the recipe for killing ants in your house. I can’t remember all the ingredients for it. It’s the recipe that you set around the house and it kills the ants that come in. So if you could help me out by calling Mail Call and letting them know the recipe so they can print it, I’d greatly appreciate it. Have a good day.”
— Hagerstown

“I see in the paper where the EDC is in favor of the new stadium. Well, the politicians and the EDC are in favor of it. It seems like the only people that aren’t in favor of it are the taxpayers, the ones who’s gonna have to pay for it. The politicians should have learned from the last election that we do not want that stadium. Let the Suns go if they want to.”
