A man who jumped over the counter and robbed Wayne’s Country Store in Hagerstown on Thursday afternoon might be the same person who tried to rob a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on Dual Highway earlier this week, according to city police.

The most recent robbery occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m., when a man jumped over the counter of the store, pushed the clerk aside and grabbed cash from the register, said Lt. Tom Langston of the Hagerstown Police Department.

The man, who did not show a weapon, fled east on West Washington Street with an undetermined amount of money, Langston said.

“There were no injuries reported,” he said.

A K-9 unit was called to search the area of the store, which is at the intersection of Nottingham Road and West Washington Street.

No one had been found as of Thursday afternoon.

Police said they believed the robber might be the same man who tried to rob the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at 330 Dual Highway on Tuesday night.

In that case, the man jumped over the counter, pushed the clerk aside and tried to open the cash register. Officers said the man was unsuccessful and fled the restaurant.

In each case, the robber was described as wearing a fishing hat and a plaid shirt.

Officers said the cashier was not injured in the attempted robbery at KFC.

Anyone with information may call the Hagerstown Police Department at 301-790-3700.
