The Scotts celebrate 50 years

Norman and Connie Scott Sr., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 13, 2013.
Married July 13, 1963, in the Ebenezer United Brethren Church in Greencastle, Pa., by the Rev. Lester Misner, the Scott’s lived in several locations in the early part of their marriage, but have lived in the Smithsburg area for the last 43 years.
The Scott’s have four children, Norman Scott Jr. of Hagerstown, (wife Karen); Richele Gift of Aledo, Texas, (husband Jonathan); Julie McGee of Hagerstown, (husband Mark); and Michael Scott of Hagerstown, (wife Cindy).
They have 12 grandchildren, Justin, Jamie, Taylor, Garrett, Abby, and Luke Scott; Samantha Gift; Amanda and Troy McGee; David Gladhill III; and Sydney and Ryan Scott.
Mr. Scott began his working career at Frick Co. in Waynesboro, Pa., but he learned the drywall trade from his father-in-law, Clyde Erickson. He has been an independent drywall contractor for the last 47 years.
Mrs. Scott spent most of her married life as a homemaker. She spent a few years working at Nussear’s Sporting Goods and Sharrett’s. She also does the bookkeeping for her husband’s business.
The couple and their children celebrated the momentous occasion with a dinner at the Schmankerl Stube Restaurant in downtown Hagerstown. They were also guests of honor at an extended family picnic at the home of their son Michael on Sunday, July 14.
